Twin Bed Frame in Canada (2026): Kids, Bunk Rooms and Guest Spaces
A twin mattress is 38 by 75 inches. Every Hamuq twin frame measures the same 78 by 41 inches, so at this size the style you pick does not change the floor space at all.
Short answer
What size is a twin bed frame?
Quick answer: A twin bed frame holds a mattress of 38 by 75 inches, which is 97 by 191 cm, and the frame itself is about 78 by 41 inches. All four Hamuq twin frames measure exactly 78 by 41 inches regardless of style, so at twin size the only thing a headboard changes is the height, from 10 inches on a plain platform to 50 inches with a tufted headboard.
Before you buy, check the height if it is going under a bunk or a sloped ceiling, whether you need twin or twin XL, the frame weight if a child will help assemble it, and whether the room would take a double instead. Every Hamuq figure below is read from Hamuq's own product data and twin dimension drawings. See the Hamuq bed frame collection for live prices.
Before you buy
Five checks that decide which twin bed frame will work for you
1. Height, not footprint
All four Hamuq twin frames are 78 by 41 in. What changes is height: 10 in for the plain platform, up to 50 in with a tufted headboard.
2. Twin or twin XL
Twin is 38 by 75 in and twin XL is 38 by 80 in. The extra 5 in matters for a teenager over about 5 ft 10 in.
3. Weight to carry and build
Twin frames here weigh 47 lb to 59 lb, the lightest frames Hamuq makes in any size, and all are a one-person carry.
4. Capacity is rarely the limit
One child or teenager plus a 55 lb twin hybrid is well under any frame rating. Hamuq publishes no capacity on any twin frame, and at this size it rarely binds.
5. Would a double fit instead
A double is 16 in wider for about $120 CAD more. In a room over 9 by 9 ft that is often the better long-term buy.
How a twin frame's outside size differs from the 38 by 75 in mattress
A twin mattress in Canada is 38 in wide by 75 in long, which is 97 by 191 cm, and twin and single mean the same thing. The unusual part at this size is that the frame does not vary. All four Hamuq twin frames measure 78 in long by 41 in wide, which is 3 in longer and 3 in wider than the mattress, whether you buy the plain platform or the one with a 50 in tufted headboard.
That is worth knowing because at queen and king the frame choice changes the floor footprint by up to 10 in of width. At twin it changes nothing horizontal. The only dimension that moves is height, and the only other thing that moves is price, from $360 to $548 CAD.
| Twin frame | Price CAD, September 10, 2026 | Outside L x W x H | Overhang vs mattress | Frame weight | Published capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Upholstered Platform Bed Frame | $360 CAD | 78 x 41 x 10 in (198 x 104 x 25 cm) | 3 in longer, 3 in wider | 59 lb (27 kg) | Not published |
| California Upholstered Bed Frame with Headboard | $410 CAD | 78 x 41 x 34 in (198 x 104 x 86 cm) | 3 in longer, 3 in wider | 54 lb (24 kg) | Not published |
| Curved Grey Upholstered Bed Frame with Headboard | $410 CAD | 78 x 41 x 44 in (198 x 104 x 112 cm) | 3 in longer, 3 in wider | 54 lb (24 kg) | Not published |
| Diamond Bed | $548 CAD | 78 x 41 x 44.5 in (198 x 104 x 113 cm) | 3 in longer, 3 in wider | 47 lb (21 kg) | Not published |
| Adjustable Bed Frame, twin XL (also sold in Full and Queen) | $1,290 CAD | 79 x 38 x 15 in (201 x 97 x 38 cm) | 1 in shorter than twin XL, same width | 89 lb (40 kg) | Not published |
Only four of Hamuq's thirteen bed frames are offered in twin, plus the Adjustable Bed Frame in twin XL. The Floating Wood, Storage Wood, Boucle, Delorious and all three upholstered storage beds start at full or double. Hamuq publishes no weight capacity for any twin frame, and this guide says so rather than estimating one.
Twin or twin XL, and when a double is the better buy
Twin is 38 by 75 in and twin XL is 38 by 80 in. The width is identical; the only difference is 5 in of length. That 5 in matters once the sleeper is over roughly 5 ft 10 in, which is why twin XL is standard in university residences and why it is the size adjustable bases are built around. Hamuq offers twin XL on its mattresses and on the Adjustable Bed Frame, which is also sold in Full and Queen.
The bigger question is usually twin versus double. A double is 54 in wide against 38 in, so it adds 16 in of sleeping width for about $120 CAD more on the frame. At twin the frame footprint is 78 by 41 in; at double it is 76 to 82 in long and 55 to 64 in wide. In a room of 9 by 9 ft or larger a double fits with a comfortable walkway, so the twin is the right answer mainly for a genuinely small room, a bunk arrangement, a room that has to hold two beds, or a child young enough that the bed will be replaced anyway.
The full Canadian mattress size chart has every size in inches and centimetres, and the double bed frame guide has the same measured table one size up.
How much weight can a twin bed frame hold?
Capacity is the constraint that almost never binds at twin size, because a twin carries one sleeper. Hamuq publishes no weight capacity on any of its twin frames. Douglas publishes 350 lb for Twin and Twin XL, which is half the 700 lb it publishes for its larger sizes, and Silk and Snow publishes 500 lb for Twin against 1,100 lb for Full, Queen and King.
A twin Hamuq Original Hybrid weighs 55 lb and a twin XL weighs 63 lb. Even against the lowest published twin rating in the set, the margin is large.
| Who is on the bed | Sleeper | Plus twin hybrid | Total load | Under 350 lb? | Under 500 lb? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Child aged 6 to 11, average | 74 lb (34 kg) | 55 lb | 129 lb (59 kg) | Yes, 221 lb spare | Yes |
| Teenager aged 12 to 19, average | 138 lb (63 kg) | 55 lb | 193 lb (88 kg) | Yes, 157 lb spare | Yes |
| Adult female, average age 20 to 39 | 151 lb (69 kg) | 55 lb | 206 lb (93 kg) | Yes, 144 lb spare | Yes |
| Adult male, average age 20 to 39 | 182 lb (83 kg) | 55 lb | 237 lb (108 kg) | Yes, 113 lb spare | Yes |
| Adult male, 95th percentile age 40 to 59 | 245 lb (111 kg) | 55 lb | 300 lb (136 kg) | Yes, 50 lb spare | Yes |
| One adult plus a child sitting on the bed | 182 lb plus 74 lb | 55 lb | 311 lb (141 kg) | Yes, 39 lb spare | Yes |
| Two adults, average, on a twin | 352 lb (160 kg) | 55 lb | 407 lb (185 kg) | No, 57 lb over | Yes |
The only row that fails a 350 lb rating is two adults on a twin, which is not what a twin is for. For a child, a teenager or a single adult guest, every twin frame in this guide has ample margin, so choose on height, price and how it looks rather than on capacity. If the bed will regularly carry two people, that is a double or a queen, and the platform bed weight limits guide covers capacity by frame type.
Twin bed frames sold in Canada, compared
Twin is the most crowded size in Canadian retail and the one where marketplace pricing is lowest. Everything below was read from the seller's own page on September 10, 2026.

Marketplace twin listings on Amazon.ca and Walmart.ca started at $59 CAD on September 10, 2026, with capacity claims such as 2,000 lb in the listing titles and no test standard named. Those are listing claims, not published specifications, and they are not used as evidence anywhere in this guide.
Hamuq Upholstered Platform Bed Frame
At $360 CAD this is the least expensive frame Hamuq sells at any size, and at 10 in high it is the only twin here that will slide under a low sloped ceiling or leave room above for a wall-mounted shelf. The 120-night trial covers the frame, which the marketplace options do not offer at all. Possible downside: no headboard, so a child sitting up in bed leans on the wall, and Hamuq publishes no weight capacity, slat spacing or clearance for it.
- Best for: a child's room, a guest room, an attic room with a sloped ceiling, or a second bed in a shared room.
- Skip if: the sleeper reads in bed and wants something to lean against.
Hamuq Diamond Bed
At 47 lb it is the lightest frame measured anywhere in this series, lighter than the plain platform despite having a full tufted headboard, and it comes in four colours including a white leather look. Same 78 by 41 in footprint as every other twin. Possible downside: it is the most expensive Hamuq twin at $548 CAD, $188 more than the platform for the same floor space, and Hamuq publishes no weight capacity for it.
- Best for: a teenager's room where the bed doubles as a sofa, or a guest room that should look finished.
- Skip if: price is the deciding factor, or the ceiling slopes over the head of the bed.
Silk and Snow Platform Bed, Twin
500 lb is the highest published twin capacity in this comparison, and Silk and Snow publishes it specifically for Twin rather than as a whole-range figure. Downside: the page publishes no twin dimensions and no frame weight, the frame trial is 30 nights against Hamuq's 120, there is no headboard, and the price shown was promotional.
- Best for: a twin that will carry an adult guest regularly and where a published number matters.
- Skip if: you need the outside dimensions before ordering, or you want a long trial on the frame.
IKEA NEIDEN
It is included because it is the honest floor of this market and because pretending otherwise would be useless to a parent buying a first bed. At $79.99 CAD it costs less than a quarter of the cheapest Hamuq twin. Downside: the listing read on September 10, 2026 published no weight capacity, no slat spacing and no frame weight; there is no sleep trial on the frame; and a slatted pine frame at this price is a different class of product from an upholstered platform. Judge it on that basis, not on price alone.
- Best for: a temporary bed, a young child's first frame, or a rental you will not keep.
- Skip if: you want published specifications or a trial period. Judge it on what the listing publishes, not on the price alone.
Kids rooms, bunk rooms and guest spaces
Twin frames get bought for three situations, and each one has a different constraint. In a child's room the constraint is height and edges. A 10 in platform is the easiest for a small child to get in and out of unaided, and a 44 to 50 in headboard is what a child leans against to read. In a shared or bunk room the constraint is the wall and the ceiling: measure the height above the mattress before choosing a headboard, because a 50 in headboard leaves very little room under a bunk or a sloped attic ceiling.
In a guest room the constraint is the guest. An adult guest on a twin is fine on capacity, as Table 2 shows, but 38 in of width is narrow for an adult who is used to a double. If the room takes it, a double frame at 76 to 82 in long is a better guest bed for roughly $120 CAD more.
Two twins side by side is also worth knowing about. Two twin frames at 41 in wide each need 82 in of wall, which is 6 in more than a single king frame at 76 to 86 in wide, and gives each sleeper 38 in against 38 in on a split king. The split king guide covers when two twin XL mattresses beat one king.
Will a twin bed frame fit your room?
A twin fits almost any bedroom, so the useful version of this question is how much room is left for everything else. The working rule used in Hamuq's 10 by 10 room guide is 24 in as the minimum walkway and 30 in as comfortable. Because every Hamuq twin frame is 78 by 41 in, one table covers them all.
| Room size | One twin against a wall | Room left for furniture | Two twins side by side | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 ft x 9 ft (84 x 108 in) | 30 in at the foot, 43 in to the side | A desk or a dresser, not both | No, needs 82 in of wall | Works for one child. |
| 8 ft x 10 ft (96 x 120 in) | 42 in at the foot, 55 in to the side | Desk and a narrow dresser | Tight, 14 in between beds | Comfortable for one, cramped for two. |
| 9 ft x 10 ft (108 x 120 in) | 42 in at the foot, 67 in to the side | Desk, dresser and floor space | Yes, 26 in between beds | Works for two children. |
| 10 ft x 12 ft (120 x 144 in) | 66 in at the foot, 79 in to the side | Everything, plus play space | Yes, 38 in between beds | Generous. A double would also fit. |
The row that decides most purchases is 9 by 10 ft, because that is where two twin frames stop being a squeeze. Below that, a single twin plus a desk is the realistic layout.

Pick the card that sounds like you
Open your route. Every answer here is also in the tables above, so nothing depends on the card.
1 It is for a young child, and the ceiling is low or sloped
Your route: the 10 in platform. The Upholstered Platform Bed Frame at $360 CAD is 78 x 41 x 10 in, the lowest twin here, and it is the easiest for a small child to climb in and out of. Avoid the 44 to 50 in headboards under a sloped ceiling or a bunk.
2 It is a teenager who reads or games in bed
Your route: a headboard, and check twin XL. The Diamond Bed at $548 CAD has a 50 in tufted headboard on the same 78 x 41 in footprint. If the teenager is over about 5 ft 10 in, a twin XL mattress at 38 by 80 in adds 5 in of length.
3 Two beds have to fit in one room
Your route: measure 82 in of wall before you buy. Two twin frames at 41 in wide each need 82 in of wall plus a gap. Table 4 shows a 9 by 10 ft room leaves 26 in between the beds, while an 8 by 10 ft room leaves only 14 in.
4 It is a guest room and the room is 9 by 9 ft or bigger
Your route: consider a double instead. A double adds 16 in of sleeping width for about $120 CAD more on the frame, and in a room of 9 by 9 ft or larger it still leaves 26 in of walkway each side. Adult guests notice the difference between 38 in and 54 in.
Confirm the live product page, your room measurements and the ceiling height before ordering.

Buyer questions
Twin bed frame FAQs for Canadian buyers
These are the questions Canadian searchers see under this topic, answered first and short.
Twin size and fit
What is the best bed frame for a twin bed?
Quick answer: One that matches the room rather than the price list, because at twin size the footprint does not change. All four Hamuq twin frames are 78 by 41 in, so choose on height: 10 in for a low platform under a sloped ceiling or a bunk, 34 to 50 in if the sleeper reads in bed. Frame weights run 47 lb to 59 lb, all one-person carries.
What size is a twin bed frame?
Quick answer: A twin mattress is 38 by 75 in (97 by 191 cm) and the frame is about 78 by 41 in, which is 3 in longer and 3 in wider. Twin XL is the same 38 in width but 80 in long. Twin and single are two names for the same size in Canada.
Where can I find a twin size bed frame in Canada?
Quick answer: Hamuq sells four twin frames from $360 to $548 CAD with published dimensions, weights and a 120-night trial. Douglas, Silk and Snow and Endy all sell twin frames, and IKEA Canada starts at $79.99. Marketplace listings on Amazon.ca and Walmart.ca start near $59 CAD but publish listing claims rather than tested specifications.
Should I buy a twin or a double bed frame?
Quick answer: Buy a twin for a young child, a bunk or shared room, or a room under about 8 by 9 ft. Buy a double if the room is 9 by 9 ft or larger and an adult will sleep on it, because a double adds 16 in of width for about $120 CAD more on the frame. Adult guests notice 38 in against 54 in.
Support and use
How much weight can a twin bed frame hold?
Quick answer: Published Canadian twin capacities read on September 10, 2026 were 350 lb at Douglas and 500 lb at Silk and Snow. Hamuq publishes none for twin. Capacity rarely binds at this size: a twin hybrid is 55 lb, a child is about 74 lb and a 95th percentile adult male is 245 lb, so even the lowest rating leaves 50 lb of margin.
Can two adults sleep on a twin bed?
Quick answer: Not comfortably, and it is the one load case that fails. Two average Canadian adults plus a twin hybrid is 407 lb, which is over the 350 lb Douglas publishes for its twin, and 38 in of width is 19 in each. A twin is designed for one sleeper.
Does a twin bed frame need a box spring?
Quick answer: No, not on any platform frame in this guide. Every Hamuq twin frame uses a slat deck that supports the mattress directly and the product pages state that no box spring is required. Adding one raises the bed, which is usually the opposite of what a child's room needs.
What is the difference between twin and twin XL?
Quick answer: Five inches of length and nothing else. Twin is 38 by 75 in and twin XL is 38 by 80 in, both the same width. Twin XL matters for a sleeper over roughly 5 ft 10 in and is the standard in university residences. Hamuq offers twin XL on its mattresses and on the Adjustable Bed Frame at $1,290 CAD.
Buying a twin frame in Canada
Is it cheaper to build a bed frame or buy one?
Quick answer: Building is usually cheaper in materials and rarely cheaper once time is counted, and a home-built frame comes with no slat specification, no capacity figure, no warranty and no trial. A retail twin frame in Canada starts near $59 CAD on marketplaces and $79.99 at IKEA, which is below the lumber cost for most designs.
Where is the best place to buy a twin bed?
Quick answer: It depends what you need published. For the lowest price, IKEA Canada and the marketplaces start between $59 and $130 CAD. For published dimensions, frame weights and a 120-night trial that covers the frame, Hamuq's four twin frames run $360 to $548 CAD. For a published capacity figure at twin, Douglas states 350 lb and Silk and Snow 500 lb.
Which Hamuq bed frames come in twin?
Quick answer: Four of thirteen. The Upholstered Platform at $360 CAD, the California and Curved Grey upholstered frames at $410 CAD each, and the Diamond Bed at $548 CAD. The Adjustable Bed Frame comes in twin XL at $1,290 CAD. The wood, boucle and storage frames all start at full or double.
How much room do two twin beds need?
Quick answer: 82 inches of wall for the two frames themselves, plus a gap between them. In a 9 by 10 ft room two twin frames leave 26 in between the beds, which is workable. In an 8 by 10 ft room they leave 14 in, which is not. Measure the wall before ordering the second bed.
How we know this
This guide was built on September 10, 2026 from four measured Hamuq twin frames plus the twin XL adjustable base, and the competitor twin frames readable the same day. Every Hamuq price came from Hamuq product data on September 10, 2026, and every Hamuq dimension and frame weight was read off that product's own twin dimension drawing. Which frames are and are not offered in twin was taken from the live variant data on the same day. Competitor twin capacities and dimensions were read from douglas.ca and silkandsnow.com, and Endy, IKEA Canada and Casper Canada twin prices from their own listings as shown to a Canadian searcher. The load calculation in Table 2 uses Statistics Canada measured adult and child weights from the Canadian Health Measures Survey Cycle 2, Table 23. Marketplace capacity claims are identified as listing claims and are not used as evidence. The questions used as FAQ headings are ones Canadian shoppers commonly search on Google, recorded on September 10, 2026. Hamuq publishes no weight capacity for any twin frame and this guide states that plainly. No review counts and no star ratings are cited anywhere in this article.
