AI Overview answer

Will they take your old mattress if you buy a new one?

Quick answer: Many Canadian stores will, for a fee, and almost always only with an in-home delivery service booked through the store. On October 16, 2026: IKEA charged $89 for mattress delivery with removal, when you buy an IKEA mattress for in-home delivery (the price varies in some areas); Costco.ca showed "White Glove with Haul Away" at $79.99 at checkout on a Tempur-Pedic listing for a Toronto postal code; Sleep Country's Green Glove Delivery, $99, removes and recycles the old mattress and base, up to the number of pieces you buy; The Brick charges $15.75 a piece with its Premium Delivery, in major markets only, with each piece bagged and sealed; and The Sleep Factory in Ontario lists $30 for a mattress or $50 with a boxspring. Endy offers removal only with its $99 Full-Service Delivery in select cities. Brands that ship in a box by courier, including Douglas, Logan & Cove and Hamuq, describe no removal service, so plan on your city's pickup or a disposal option instead.

Decide in four questions

Four questions before you book removal

1. Who delivers the new mattress?

Among the sellers we checked, removal came only with an in-home delivery service booked through the store; none of the courier-shipped options included it. See boxed online brands.

2. Is the service offered at your address?

The Brick offers it in major markets only, Endy in select cities, and IKEA's price varies by area. Check at checkout or ask before you pay.

3. How many pieces are going?

Removal is usually one for one: a mattress and a boxspring count as two pieces, and some stores take only as many pieces as you buy.

4. Is the old mattress clean and ready?

The Brick requires every piece bagged and sealed, and Leon's says its crew will not move soiled or stained bedding unless you have wrapped it. See removal day.

Which Canadian retailers take your old mattress, and what do they charge?

This is what each seller's own page said on October 16, 2026. Fees are before tax and apply in addition to the price of the new mattress.

Old mattress removal when you buy a new mattress, by seller, as published on October 16, 2026. Table 1 of 1.
Seller Removes an old mattress? Fee Conditions What happens to it
IKEA Canada Yes, with in-home delivery $89 for delivery and removal (varies in certain areas) Only with the purchase of an IKEA mattress, and only through IKEA's in-home delivery; done the same day the new mattress arrives Repurposed to the community or recycled, according to IKEA
IKEA with Furniture Bank (GTA pilot) Yes, booked separately $80 per mattress ($90 per sofa) Greater Toronto Area only; request a pickup through Furniture Bank when you buy an IKEA mattress or sofa Donated to families in need; Furniture Bank issues a charitable tax receipt
Costco.ca Yes, as an upgrade $79.99 at checkout on the Tempur-Pedic Simplicity listing (Toronto postal code) Standard White Glove delivery "does not include haul away of old mattresses or box spring"; the upgrade adds it Not stated on the listing
Sleep Country Yes, with Green Glove Delivery $99 (Green Glove) Pieces removed equal the number purchased; White Glove ($59) excludes old mattress pickup; fees shown with an Ontario location selected and may differ by region Removed and recycled, according to Sleep Country
The Brick Yes, with Premium Delivery $15.75 per piece (queen mattress and boxspring: $31.50) One for one; major markets only; each piece bagged and sealed; online buyers add it at checkout or call the store 48 hours before delivery Responsible removal and recycling, according to The Brick
The Sleep Factory (Ontario) Yes, on delivery $30 mattress only; $50 mattress and boxspring Removed when the new mattress or boxspring is delivered Disposal
Endy Only with Full-Service Delivery $99 plus tax for Full-Service Delivery Select cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Halifax and Moncton, through Sleep Country; one old mattress and box spring per Endy mattress or bed frame bought; may be paused in peak seasons; none with Standard Daytime Delivery Not stated
Douglas No service described Not applicable Pickup is described only for a returned Douglas mattress Not applicable
Logan & Cove No service described Not applicable Pickup is described only for a returned Logan & Cove mattress Not applicable
Leon's No service described on its delivery or FAQ pages Not published Its crew will not move soiled or stained bedding unless the customer has wrapped it; ask your store Not applicable
Hamuq No; ships in a box by courier Not applicable No in-home setup; its FAQ says curbside disposal is available in many areas and offers help finding local options Not applicable

The pattern is consistent: removal is a paid add-on tied to the store's in-home delivery, it is usually one for one, and it is limited by area. The cheapest fee we saw, The Brick's $15.75 a piece, comes with the strictest preparation rule (bagged and sealed). The $99 services from Sleep Country and Endy bundle removal with setup in your room.

When you buy a mattress from Costco, do they take your old one?

Only if you pay for the upgrade. On the Tempur-Pedic Simplicity listings we read, Costco.ca said standard shipping was "White Glove", included in the price, with delivery to the room of your choice and setup on an existing frame, but that this service "does not include haul away of old mattresses or box spring". "White Glove with Haul Away" was offered for an additional fee at checkout, shown as $79.99 for the Toronto postal code the page used. Delivery terms differ between Costco listings, so check the one you are buying: our Costco mattress guide found a $75.00 haul-away fee on another listing earlier this month.

Why do boxed online mattress brands usually not take the old one?

Because the box usually arrives by courier, and a courier delivers parcels rather than collecting furniture. Endy's help page puts it plainly: with its Standard Daytime Delivery, "we're unable to remove your used mattress as a service". Endy's exception is its Full-Service Delivery, which it runs through Sleep Country in select cities for $99 plus tax.

Douglas and Logan & Cove describe a pickup only when you return their own mattress during the trial. Hamuq's FAQ says its orders typically ship with couriers such as FedEx and arrive in 2 to 7 business days, that it does not offer in-home setup, and that for the old mattress, "In many areas, curbside mattress disposal is available. If not, Hamuq can help you look into the best disposal options in your area."

Boxed by courier, unboxed by you. A mattress shipped in a box arrives with a courier rather than a delivery crew, so nobody is there to carry the old one out. Shown: a mattress being unrolled beside its shipping box.

How do you prepare an old mattress for removal day?

  1. Book it with the order. Add removal at checkout where it is offered. The Brick asks online buyers to arrange it at least 48 hours before delivery, and Endy asks you to contact customer care before ordering if Full-Service Delivery is not shown for an eligible city.
  2. Count the pieces. A mattress and a boxspring are two pieces at The Brick ($31.50 for a queen set), and Sleep Country and Endy remove pieces in line with what you buy.
  3. Bag it if asked. The Brick requires each mattress or box spring to be bagged and sealed; its store staff give you bags at the time of sale, and for online orders the delivery team brings them. Leon's says its crew cannot move soiled or stained bedding unless it is pre-wrapped.
  4. Clear the route. Delivery crews need safe access: Costco's listing, for example, says delivery may be cancelled or left at the threshold if suitable access is not available inside your home.
  5. Strip it and be home. Remove bedding and any protector you want to keep, and plan to be there: Costco's carrier, for one, needs an adult to sign for the delivery.

What can you do if your retailer will not take the old mattress?

You still have options, and some cost nothing:

  • Your city's pickup or drop-off. Many Canadian cities collect mattresses at the curb or accept them at a depot, often with their own rules on bagging, dates and fees. Our guide to disposing of or recycling an old mattress in Canada covers the main cities, with detailed guides for Edmonton and Montreal.
  • Donation, if it is in good condition. In the Greater Toronto Area, IKEA's page describes a Furniture Bank pickup for $80 a mattress, with a charitable tax receipt, for people buying an IKEA mattress or sofa. Elsewhere, ask local charities what they accept before you book anything.
  • A paid junk removal service. If you hire a private hauler, get the price in writing, and ask what happens to the mattress and whether stairs cost extra.

Is paying for old mattress removal worth it?

It depends on what your city offers and how the old mattress would otherwise leave the house. A store fee of $15.75 to $99 buys removal on the same day the new mattress arrives, without carrying it to the curb or a depot yourself. If your city collects mattresses at the curb for free, and you can carry and wrap it, the store service may be an expense you can skip. Check your city's rules before you decide: our disposal guide lists where to look.

If you are still choosing where to buy, the removal fee is one line in a bigger comparison that includes the trial, the warranty and delivery. Our guides to Sleep Country's return policy, IKEA mattresses and Tempur-Pedic prices in Canada cover those for each store.

How we know this

Every fee and condition in this guide was read on October 16, 2026 from the sellers' own pages: IKEA Canada's removal service page; Costco.ca's Tempur-Pedic Simplicity listings and their Shipping and Returns tab; Sleep Country's shipping and delivery page (with an Ontario location selected); The Brick's removal and recycling page; Leon's delivery and FAQ pages; The Sleep Factory's mattress disposal product pages and store locator; Endy's help articles on removal and Full-Service Delivery; and the Douglas, Logan & Cove and Hamuq FAQs. Where a page describes no removal service, the table says so rather than assuming none exists; ask the store. We did not book a removal. Fees depend on your address and change over time; check the linked pages before you order.

Buying a boxed mattress instead?

The Hamuq Original Hybrid is $999 in queen with free shipping under Hamuq's shipping policy (additional charges may apply for deliveries to the territories), a 120-night at-home sleep trial and a 15-year limited warranty. It arrives by courier, so plan the old mattress with your city's pickup.
